Vitamin D3 5000 IU
The one deficiency almost every lifter has and nobody tests for.
Vitamin D isn't really a vitamin. It behaves more like a hormone, and your body makes it from sunlight on bare skin. Which is a problem if you train indoors, work indoors, live somewhere with a real winter, or have darker skin. Deficiency is common enough that it's worth assuming you're low until a blood test says otherwise.
Why Lifters Care
- Muscle function and strength. Vitamin D receptors sit directly on muscle tissue. Low levels are associated with reduced strength output.
- Bone health. D3 governs how well you absorb calcium. Heavy loading needs a skeleton that can take it.
- Immune support. The reason people get more colds in winter isn't only the cold.
- Mood and energy. Low D is consistently linked with low mood, especially through the darker months.
How to Take It
- One softgel daily, with a meal containing fat. D3 is fat-soluble and absorbs poorly on an empty stomach.
- Take it every day. Levels build gradually over weeks rather than working dose by dose.
- Pair it with vitamin K2 if you're supplementing long term. The two work together on where calcium ends up.
Questions People Ask Us
Is 5000 IU a lot? It's a standard maintenance dose for adults and well within normal supplemental range. If you want to be precise, ask your doctor for a 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood test and dose from the result.
D2 or D3? D3 is the form your skin actually produces and it raises blood levels more effectively than D2.
Can I skip it in summer? If you're genuinely outdoors with skin exposed most days, you may not need it. Most people aren't.
Who This Is For
Anyone training indoors, anyone through autumn and winter, shift workers, and anyone who has been told their levels are low. It's also one of the cheapest supplements on this site, which makes it hard to argue with.
